Solar Assisted Heating

Heat your own home - Flat Panel Solar Plates

what is it?

Solar thermal panels convert sunlight   into energy to heat the water in domestic  homes throughout the year

Solar radiation is converted into heat as the panels absorb the solar energy, the pipes in the flat panels circulate the heated water which is then transferred to your home boiler system

the benefits

A fully installed hot water system, which can provide up to 5.5% of energy rating C02 saving (325kg)**

You may not need to run your boiler in the summer to heat your hot water, and  your bills in winter will be reduced.

The benefits of solar panels

Flat bed plates are a cheaper alternative and they look very inoffensive.

Flat bed plates use a  simplier technology, a thin panel usually black with a glass pane over the top to stop the heat escaping into the air, this maximises the transfer of heat to the hot water cyclinder.

When the sun shines directly onto the panels they have the maximum plate surface area exposed to the sun.

From March - October you may not need to use your boiler to heat your hot water, in winter the solar assistance will continue to reduce the need for your boiler to fire up throughout the day.

Cut your energy bills, sunlight is free once you have paid for the initial installation your hot water cost will be considerably reduced.

We can offer five types of installation options

* On Roof * In Roof * On Walls with a Facade * Flat Roof A Frame *

* As a Canopy which provides patio shading *

Getting solar installed

Don't worry if your boiler isn't up to date, we can install a  more efficient solar compatible boiler as part of the installation.

South facing or south-east roof are ideal Even roof that are east or west usually offer up to 85% of the technology you need for a overall good performance.

If you live in a listed building or a conservation area you will need to check with your local planning officer.

Combi Boilers

.Combi boilers are plausible but we will need to install a hot water tank. Most homes with a combi-boiler will not have the space to have a domestic sized hot water tank. Providing you have enough space for the tank to be re-installed then it is possible to have the system fitted

Frequently asked questions

How do solar panels work?                                                                                         When solar radiation or solar energy hits the panels the short-wave radiation is converted into long-wave radiation and this creates heat.

Is solar suitable for my home?                                                                                        All you need is about 5 square metres of roof space that faces east to west through south, and gets direct sunlight for the main part of the day.

How much will it cost?                                                                                                   Prices vary, give us a call and one of our solar surveyors can provide you with a tailor-made quotation.

How long does it take to install my system?                                                                 Every installation is different depending on the property and type of system required, it usually takes between 2-3 days.

What water temperature can I expect?                                                                            A good proportion of the year your water will be heated to above 600 C

How do I maintain the system?                                                                                       Solar water heating systems require very little maintainance, however we reccommend you check your panels once a year and wipe them over, and every 3-5 years by an accredited installer.

Will I need to get planning permission?                                                                           In England most solar water heating systems don't require planning permission, unless you live in a listed building or a conservation area, but it's always best to check with your local planning office.

How much C02 will my system save?                                                                             Around half a tonne per year, this is dependant on how  much hot water you use and how you heat your hot water at present.

How much money will I save?                                                                                         A  typical system can provide around a third of your hot water needs, reducing your water heating bills by around £60 - £ 90 a year.

A word about quality

There are some companies who are importing and selling poor quality systems in the Uk. Undoubtedly a cheap option would in the long run be a false economy, as far as longevity and performance. We refuse to sell sub-standard systems to our customers.
