SIPs or Polyurethane?

Garden pods are constructed from pre designed and pre made flat panels that are easy to transport and easy to fit together once they arrive on site.

We are currently offering two types of panels for our garden pod construction at the moment: SIPs and Polyurethane. Both Sips and Polyurethane pods have their plus points and will depend on your personal preference when choosing your ideal pod.

SIPs Garden Pods

SIPs Garden Pods are constructed from Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). SIPs are manufactured by sandwiching insulated foam between two boards which are then profile cut to the size or shape required for the garden pods design.

SIPs have a U value of anywhere between 0.44 and 0.17 (lower is better) meaning that heat is retained in winter and pods keep cool in summer.

The resulting SIPs have a low U Value which is the measurement used to calculate how much heat passes through the panels.

SIPs pods require:

1. A solid flat foundation to be built or laid for the pod to be built upon and secured to.
2. Construction by a competent DIY enthusiast or a professional tradesperson.
3. External cladding to be fitted.
4. Internal walls to be plastered and finished.
5. Internal floor laid.
6. Electrics to be routed from the main house of mains supply.
7. Roof Waterproofing.
8. Estimated time to completion: 3 to 5 days.

Polyurethane Garden Pods – QuickEasy Pods

Our QuickEasy garden pods are built using Polyurethane highly insulated panels. Polyurethane panels are made by bonding two boards to either side of a thick layer of polyurethane. The panels are then cut to size and shape as laid out by the garden pods design. Polyurethane panels have a very low U Value and provide greater insulating than SIPs panels. Polyurethane panels come ‘pre clad’ both inside and out so there is no need to attach any extra materials (unless for decorative purposes) when building your garden pod.

Because the panels are pre clad there is no need to place the garden pod on a permanent base, allowing it to be built on any existing flat surface; placing a polyurethane garden pod on your patio is a very viable option. Pre-clad panels also cut down on build time as there is no need for extra external cladding to be fitted or for the internal walls to be plastered, finished or painted.

When building the polyurethane pod, the panels are joined together with a lever locking mechanism which requires no hammer or nails, allowing the pod walls and roof to be put together in a matter of hours rather than days.

As an added bonus, because the polyurethane pod is so easy to assemble and does not require to be permanently attached to a solid base, it can be easily moved if need be, or completely dismantled and relocated to another site. Moving house? Take your pod with you!

Polyurethane QuickEasy pods require:

1. Construction by a DIY person.
2. Electrics to be routed from the main house or mains supply.
3. Roof Waterproofing.
4. Estimated build time: less that 1 day.
